City'us show ability with Super Cup win

Saturday 11 September 2010

City'us Târgu Mures won the Romanian Super Cup by a 14-1 scoreline under new coach Sito Rivera and the experienced Spaniard has high hopes for their UEFA Futsal Cup debut this month.

City'us Târgu Mures showed their ability ahead of their UEFA Futsal Cup debut by defeating CSM Focsani 14-1 this week to win the Romanian Super Cup.

Having completed the double last season with their first league title. City'us further demonstrated their ambition with the appointment of experienced Spanish coach Sito Rivera, who led Italy's Luparense C/5 at last season's UEFA Futsal Cup finals and also trains the Romanian national team. From that squad he has signed Robert Matei, Robert Lupu, Dumitru Stoica, Florin Ignat and Razvan Radu, and all five were among 11 different scorers in their Super Cup success.

Now their attentions turn to the UEFA Futsal Cup main round Group 3, played in their own City Arena between 28 September and 1 October, where they face FK Nikars Riga, Sporting Fingal SC and Araz Naxçivan – who beat Rivera's Luparense to third place in Lisbon last season. Rivera said: "I'm very happy about this [Super Cup] win, my first trophy with my new team.

"Now, we have to prepare for the UEFA Futsal Cup, probably our most important event this year. We have a very tough group. The last team to that earned a place from the preliminary round, Sporting Fingal, have many Brazilian players, a Brazilian coach and come to Tirgu-Mures with a lot of ambition.

"Araz are for sure the toughest opponents we could have faced. Having claimed third place in the finals in Lisbon, Araz are favourites, but I am sure my side will play well. Nikars Riga are our first opponents. That is the most important game, we have to win it, against very good team. We are in this competition for the first time but I'm sure our run will not end here."
